The 2025 offseason is a critical one for Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels. After barely squeaking into the NCAA Tournament, UNC was bounced after a disappointing showing against Ole Miss in the first round.
Now, there are a lot of questions to be answered and that begins right away with roster construction through the transfer portal.
There have been two players that have entered the portal already for the Tar Heels with Elliot Cadeau and Jalen Washington. UNC will still have to fill those needs and others through the portal and Davis revealed on Wednesday just where the Tar Heels need to improve.
"We've got to get bigger," he said, during the final edition of his weekly radio show this season via Inside Carolina. "We just do. From A to Z, we just do. And we talked about the physicality of Ole Miss (in the NCAA Tournament) and their positional size was bigger than us. And pretty much that's the way we were the whole season. So that's one of the things that we're definitely going to address is, we've got to get bigger. In terms of that physicality, you have to have a presence, you have to be bigger. And that's what we're addressing."
Davis is right. The Tar Heels do need to get bigger and often times they were hurt by another team's physicality this season. Ole Miss is just the latest example, and it ended their season.
Last offseason, the Tar Heels needed to fill the void left by Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram, their two best rebounders. They tried to target big men in the portal and missed out on some top targets while landing Ven-Allen Lubin who developed into a good player by season's end.
But if UNC misses again in the portal, it could be even more devastating overall.
