Abington Heights powerlifters won the Class 5A boys team title at the State Teenage Powerlifting Meet at Parkland High School last weekend.

Colin Pasternak was named the best lifter in the 13-15-year-old division. Riverside’s Angel Grande won a best lifter award in the 16-17-year-old division.

Abington Heights girls’ finished second in the team competition. Sarah Staples (13-15) and Ava Lawless (18-19) earned best female lifter awards.

Athletes compete in three weightlifting events: squat, bench press, and deadlift for a total weight lifted. The top five lifters in each category earn points toward the team championship.

In addition to Pasternak, who won in the 130-pound division, Abington Heights had three other champions: Reece Stanton, 13-15-year-old, 126-pound division; Mike Gunnels, 16-17-year-old, 116-pound division; and Bradley Newman, 18-19-year-old, 130-pound division.

Pasternak had a squat of 350 pounds, a bench press of 220, and a deadlift of 350 for a winning total of 920 pounds.

Parkland’s Maddox Rampen won the division with a 1,245 total. Due to a technical execution issue with Rampen’s deadlift, the two lifters were awarded first place.
