Fresh off a 91-88 overtime victory over the No. 4 seed Illinois Fighting Illini, the Wisconsin Badgers are back in action on Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal against the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines.
Wisconsin had a phenomenal finish on Friday, coming back from down 15 to force overtime against Illinois for the second time this season. Nick Boyd had a career-high 38 points, while John Blackwell added 31 of his own.
More importantly, Wisconsin was able to out-rebound Illinois despite not having Nolan Winter, beating out one of the best teams in the country. Now, they’ll face an even bigger challenge with the Wolverines, who have three starters at 6’9 or above.
Wisconsin has been in this position before. In each of the last two years, they were the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. They won their first game against either the No. 12 or No. 13 seed, upset the No. 4 seed, and faced off against the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. Two years ago, it was the Purdue Boilermakers. Last year, it was the Michigan State Spartans. This year, it’s the Michigan Wolverines.
