How to Watch UNC Baseball try to continue their season against Oklahoma

It’s now or never. There may be no tomorrow. Can’t win tomorrow unless you win today.

Pick whatever cliche you like, the Tar Heels are down to their last chance.

Thanks to Oklahoma winning Game One yesterday, the Tar Heels are down to their last chance to win the 2026 NCAA Championship, and they’ll have to win two games in a row to do so. One would be excused if the pessimism is high here, as the Oklahoma Sooners just seem like one of those teams that has caught a rocket ship and won’t stop until the title.

The thing is, though, there’s good news if you’re a Carolina fan. For one, the Tar Heels were in this position in the Super Regionals, having battled a hot USC team. They rallied to win the next two and earn their ticket to Omaha. There’s also some solace in the fact that of the last ten NCAA baseball champions, six lost game one of the Final.

You’ll also remember 20 years ago the Tar Heels were in Oklahoma’s position by winning game one, only to see it all go away over the next two. There’s a reason this title is won in a best two-out-of-three series.

The difference over a couple weeks ago for Carolina is that they are going to have to rely on the pitcher who threw in that loss, Ryan Lynch, in order to get the win today. Usually-reliable ace Jason DeCaro never deemed to get settled on Saturday, and it’s now come down to Lynch to stretch this season into another day. Carolina does have Caden Glauber, who didn’t throw a pitch at all yesterday, ready to come in for him, and Walker McDuffie should be available if needed as he wasn’t taxed too much either.

In order to save their season, the Tar Heels are going to have to get some help from the bottom of the order. Their five through nine hitters managed just one hit yesterday, and that lack of production killed a couple of rallies the Tar Heels had to try and scratch back into the game when it was only a four run deficit.

On the other side, Oklahoma will throw out Xander Mercurius, who is fresh off throwing 7 1/3 innings for a win against Georgia on June 15th. His nine strikeouts on the day frustrated the Bulldogs, and the talented freshman will look to slam the door shut and get the Sooners the national title.

• TV: ABC. Karl Ravech will be handling play-by-play with Chris Burke and Kyle Peterson doing color and Kris Budden handling the field reports. If you want an alt cast, you can find it on ESPN U, where Mike Monaco, Ben McDonald, Mike Rooney, and Jack DeLongchamps will be holding court.
