The No. 1 UConn women's basketball team is four wins from back-to-back national championships. The next test will come against No. 4 seed North Carolina on Friday, March 27, in at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
UConn (36-0) will be going for their 53rd straight victory. They are led by sophomore sensation Sarah Strong, who was selected as the 2026 USBWA National Player of the Year on March 25. Strong leads UConn in points (18.4 ppg), rebounds (7.5), blocks (1.6) and steals (3.3).
Strong is the eighth Husky to earn USBWA National Player of the Year joining Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003), Maya Moore (2009, '11), Tina Charles (2010), Breanna Stewart (2014, '15, '16) and Paige Bueckers (2021).
Indya Nivar, a senior guard, averages 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and a team-high 3.8 assists per game to lead North Carolina. The Tar Heels (28-7) won 13 of their last 15 regular-season games.
The UConn Huskies play the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16 of the Women's NCAA Tournament at 5 p.m. Friday, March 27, in Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas .
