Big Blue Nation gets another summer afternoon inside Historic Memorial Coliseum, and this one comes with a $2 million bracket on the line. La Familia, the Kentucky alumni team, hosts Boeheim’s Army, the Syracuse alumni squad, on Sunday afternoon with a spot in the TBT Alumni Final at stake.

How both teams got here
La Familia needed all three games to get out of the opening round against The Ville, and it was every bit as chippy as you would expect from a Kentucky and Louisville alumni series. Darryl Morsell threw down a game-winning dunk under the Elam Ending to steal Game 1 at Memorial Coliseum, 72-68.
Louisville answered at Freedom Hall, riding a 35-point night from Montrezl Harrell to an 82-62 win in Game 2.
Back in Lexington for the decider, La Familia grinded out a 63-57 win to take the series 2-1.
Boeheim’s Army had a much cleaner path. The Orange alumni jumped Hall In, the Seton Hall alumni team, 82-52 in Game 1 at Walsh Gymnasium behind Cole Swider and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu. They closed the sweep Thursday night in Syracuse, 81-76, with Tyson Walker hitting the Elam Ending free throw to finish it off.
Worth remembering who you are dealing with here. Boeheim’s Army is 27-10 all-time in TBT and won the whole thing in 2021. This is one of the most experienced programs in the event.
Familiar faces on both benches
La Familia’s roster is stocked with Wildcats you know: Willie Cauley-Stein, Andrew Harrison, Archie Goodwin, Kahlil Whitney, Marcus Lee and DeAndre Liggins, alongside Morsell, Sean McNeil, Chris Coffey, and James Mainor-Bell. Jon Hood, a member of the 2012 national championship team, is in his first season as head coach, with Twany Beckham running the front office.
Boeheim’s Army counters with Buddy Boeheim, Jimmy Boeheim, Eric Devendorf, Elijah Hughes, Wes Johnson, Swider, Walker, Akobundu-Ehiogu, Chris McCullough, and Jacorey Williams.
If the matchup feels familiar, it should. Kentucky and Syracuse met in the 1996 national championship game, with Rick Pitino’s Cats beating Jim Boeheim’s Orange 76-67 for the program’s sixth title. Thirty years later, the alumni are settling it again.
The stakes
TBT overhauled its format this year. Fourteen teams, a bracket split into alumni and non-alumni sides, and $2 million winner-take-all. Sunday’s winner moves on to the Alumni Final, and from there the last alumni team standing meets the last non-alumni team standing for the money.
In other words, both of these teams are three wins away from winning $2 million.
