Kao Akobundu-Ehiogu soars for a dunk in TBT action | Tom Windhausen-CuseNation Sports

In front of Jim Boeheim, Gerry McNamara and Carmelo Anthony, Boeheim’s Army went on a run in the 4th quarter to finish their series sweep over Hall In with an 81-76 win at the OnCenter War Memorial in downtown Syracuse.

Boeheim’s Army advances to the Alumni Bracket semi-final to face the Kentucky alumni team La Familia. That will be a single elimination game on Sunday at 2:00 on Fox.

Cole Swider and Tyson Walker led the way with 15 points while both earning double-doubles- Swider with 13 rebounds and Walker with 10 assists. Kao Akobundu-Ehiogu added 14 points on 7-7 shooting from the field. Buddy Boeheim had 14 and Elijah Hughes 12. Hall In was led by Ant Nelson (20 points) and Isaiah Whitehead (17 points).

The Elam Ending came with Boeheim’s Army holding a 73-64 lead, but Hall In cut it to 77-74 and had a Colby Rogers attempt a 3 to tie. The shot didn’t fall and Cole Swider knocked down a 3 to put the Syracuse alums within 1 point of the win and Tyson Walker closed it from the foul line.

It was a slow start for both offenses as we hit the end of the 1st quarter tied at 13. The shooting woes continued in the second quarter but a Buddy 3 late gave Boeheim’s Army a 32-28 lead at the half.

Both teams got rolling in the 3rd, with Boeheim’s Army getting a nice stretch from Elijah Hughes as they raced out to a 50-37 lead. It looked like this one might turn into another comfortable win, but Hall In’s Nelson and Rogers got hot and they went on a 20-9 run to make it a two-point game after the 3rd.

A layup from Whitehead tied the game at 62 and then the teams went scoreless for nearly two minutes before Buddy finally got some shots to fall propelling Boeheim’s Army to the lead heading into the Elam Ending. Buddy had 11 of his 14 in the 4th quarter and he’ll need to pack that hot shooting in his bag to Lexington this weekend.

Hall In scored 29 points in the quarter as they looked to extend the series to a 3rd game. It set fans up for an exciting finish as Boeheim’s Army moves on in their quest for the $2 million prize.

We’ll get a rematch of the 1996 National Championship game so maybe Boeheim’s Army can break out the “Cuse is in the House” chants.
