The top two picks in last month’s NBA draft face off on Thursday night as top selection AJ Dybantsa leads the Washington Wizards against Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Dybantsa averaged 25.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in his lone season at BYU, earning consensus All-America honors on his way to being the first name called in the NBA draft. Washington also features a pair of 2025 first-round picks in guard Tre Johnson and forward Will Riley, as well as 2026 second-rounder Felix Okpara from Tennessee. Two-way contract players Julian Reese and Jamir Watkins are also in Las Vegas, as is unrestricted free agent Kadary Richmond, who played in three games for the Wizards on a 10-day contract in February.
Peterson made a splash at the Salt Lake Summer League last week, scoring 53 points with 14 assists in two games while hitting 19-of-36 overall and 7-of-16 from 3-point range. Ace Bailey, a 2025 lottery pick by Utah, comes to Vegas after averaging 13.8 points per game as a rookie last season. Peterson averaged 20.2 points per game at Kansas as a freshman, limited to 24 games by a series of nagging injuries.
Dybantsa joins veterans Anthony Davis and Trae Young with the Wizards, who also brought back veteran Khris Middleton in a sign-and-trade. Big man Alex Sarr was the No. 2 overall pick in 2024, as well. The Jazz have former All-Stars Lauri Markkanen and veteran Jaren Jackson Jr. leading the frontcourt.
