England face Ghana in their second group stage game of the 2026 World Cup, with both sides having won their opening matches.

Team news​


Bukayo Saka trained fully with his England team-mates ahead of the game, and boss Thomas Tuchel says he is not feeling any pain from his Achilles issue. Declan Rice is also set to be involved despite a hamstring problem.

Ghana are hopeful goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has shaken off his injury problem and will be able to start.

England played out a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening game of the tournament, while Ghana left it late to beat Panama 1-0.


What’s been said?​


England head coach Thomas Tuchel on his side needing to improve defensively: “We need to do things better. Defensively we dropped a little too deep from a middle block into a low block and deep block, which is in itself not a problem, but we went a bit too early. We were a bit too man-man focused and didn’t rely enough on our structure to be able to push out again.”

Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz: “This is the easiest type of match, because when you’re about to play against England, France or Germany, you don’t need to say anything to the players. They’re fully motivated,” he said.

“Everybody is fully switched on and everybody wants to perform well. What we have to do in this type of game is to try and moderate the enthusiasm, but mainly we need to do work together.”
