Latvia and Great Britain meet on Saturday in Group A play of the 2026 IIHF World Championship.
Latvia is coming off a huge win on Saturday as the team knocked off the defending champions of Team USA 4-2, fueled by a huge third period that the Latvians won 3-1. That moved Latvia to fourth in the group standings, which would qualify it for the quarterfinals. A win over Great Britain would go a long way towards ensuring that the gap over the United States remains as group play winds down.
Great Britain, meanwhile, has already seen its hopes of advancing dashed after losing all five of its matches in regulation, but there’s still something huge in play here, and leaving this game with points would help the British side stave off relegation.
The IIHF World Championship continues through May 31, with U.S. television coverage on NHL Network. Last year, the United States won the title for the third time, with Switzerland finishing second, Sweden third, and Denmark fourth.
