England finds itself in the rare position of attempting to come back from a loss when it faces New Zealand in a Florida friendly ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 kick-off. The Three Lions produced one of their worst performances under Thomas Tuchel when they lost 1-0 at home to Japan in March, but will have far loftier expectations at Raymond James Stadium.

England had gone undefeated in seven prior to that and advanced through UEFA qualifying by winning each of its eight games, one of only two teams to do so (Norway being the other). Tuchel’s men remain one of the favorites for World Cup glory despite the Japan setback, but anything other than a confident win over the Kiwis will signal serious worries leading into the World Cup opener against Croatia.
The All Whites are in an even more concerning position after suffering a 4-0 annihilation against World Cup debutant-in-waiting Haiti. The Grenadiers unloaded without response at Chase Stadium, leaving manager Darren Bazeley with some serious questions in need of answering.
Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood started against Haiti after an injury-riddled season and may look to get some more valuable minutes against some familiar faces in Tampa. Meanwhile, Tuchel may field something close to his strongest XI with only two friendlies to go before England’s World Cup campaign gets underway.
