Los Angeles crushed five home runs in Monday night’s series opener while cruising to a 14-2 blowout win. Dalton Rushing went deep twice for his first career multi-homer game while Teoscar Hernandez, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani also left the yard. Hernandez finished with four RBI, and Justin Wrobleski allowed a run on two hits over five innings.

Right-hander Max Scherzer left after just two innings for Toronto due to forearm tendinitis. He surrendered Hernandez’s two-run homer in the first. Kazuma Okamoto had two of the Blue Jays’ five hits in the loss, and catcher Tyler Heineman closed out the game on the mound with a 1-2-3 ninth. Regular catcher Alejandro Kirk is set for surgery on his fractured left thumb that was injured on Friday. The two-time All-Star could miss up to six weeks.
Kevin Gausman, a right-hander, gets the start for the Jays on Tuesday night. He’s allowed one run on three hits with 21 strikeouts in 12 innings over his first two starts while taking a pair of no-decisions. World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1-1) takes the ball for the Dodgers, having surrendered four runs on nine hits over 12 innings in two starts thus far.
