The GHSA State Swim Meet was held last week at Georgia Tech, and there were a number of Savannah area swimmers who made statements with strong performances.
Jenkins senior Victor Cintron Rosario won a Class A-3A state title in the 200-yard freestyle as he touched the wall in 1:40.84. He also took home a Silver Medal in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.20.
Alexandra Mackowiak, the standout sophomore from Savannah Arts, finished second in the Class A-3A meet in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.97. She was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.63.
Richmond Hill junior Abby Found finished second in the Class 6A 100-yard butterfly in 56.31.
Cintron Rosario said his top finish in previous state meets was fifth, and he was looking to win a medal with a top three finish when everything fell into place.
"It just feels really good after all those years when those guys left me behind in big races," Cintron Rosario said. "But I have put in a lot of work in the last year and caught up with them. I wanted to win a medal, but wasn't thinking that I would win."
The GIAA State Meet was also held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Monday, Feb. 9, and St. Andrew's junior Jossy Thompson added to her trophy case. Thompson won the 50 free in 24.25 and the 100 butterfly in 58.68, while finishing second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.04.
