Nicolas Roy has a last name that brings to mind an all-time NHL great.
Patrick Roy was one of the best goalies to play in the National Hockey League.
Nicolas, on the other hand, is a forward for the Colorado Avalanche. He was traded midway through the 2025-26 season from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
And during a playoff run, Nicolas has fans asking an important question.
Is Nicolas Roy related to Patrick Roy?
They actually are not related.
At the time of his midseason trade, there was a bit of mixed signals on this, but they're not related.

Nicolas Roy family
Roy is the son of Nick and Lisa Roy.
He's originally from Amos, Quebec.
His sister played hockey, too, and she represented Team Quebec at the 2012 National Women's Under-18 Championship.
Nicolas was the 96th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.
The 6-foot-4 center has made a solid career for himself.
