If they can see some action in the first preseason game is the latest. So I guess 2 to 3 days before the fisrt preseason games. Anything after that and I think they can not make a impact right away. What do you guys think.

If we get them in this week, the damage should be minimal. Beyond that, we start messing with fire. If they aren't in camp by the end of week one, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them injured during preseason. They have to be in a good 5-6 days before the games actually begin.

I think the length of a holdout would have a much greater impact on Johnson then on Pace. Johnson needs to get in camp, get reps and learn not only the pro game, but the Cards offense. Pace needs camp more to learn the pseed of the pro game and technique.

Johnson also has a problem in that Sullivan will start the guys who perform -- period. He doesn't give a dam who's being paid what, or when they were drafted.
Which seems to indicate the hold out will hurt Johnson a lot more than the Cards. He may already dislike reading more about Boldin than himself -- that could turn out to be the season story.

Johnson's folly and McAddely's demotion means a big chance for Boldin and Walker.
Marquis has been the forgotten man in our off season acquisitions, but he has big time talent. Johnson may find himself as a 4th or 5th wideout if he holds out too long.

I think it depends on the player, the position, and the complexity of the team's offense/ defense. Simeon Rice missed most (all?) of training camp his rookie season, and was Defensive Rookie-of-the Year. Leonard Davis missed all of camp, and was named to the All-Rookie team.
Not saying camp and the preseason aren't important, but you have to believe that players with true first-round talent should be quick studies, more often than not.

Yeah but in Simeon and Davis you're talking about #3 and #2 picks overall in the draft. Those guys were special players and their talent levels were superior to almost everyone else in the draft - that's the reason they could make impact the way they did - now talking about a the #18th pick (a guy a lot of observers though was taken at least one round early, if not two) there's a different level of talent - Pace needs to get his ass in here pronto - I don't think he can afford the holdout the way Rice or Davis could - although I guess only time will tell.

My reason for before the first games is to get all the chances to see FNL speed in both games and practice, plus most players need to gell with thier teammates. I think a WR, OL and DL would need that most of all. WR for timing and to learn the QB and for OL and DL to learn the players that thay are lining up with. Pace needs that, if he didn't he would have been a top 3 pick.
