The New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets will close out the NBA regular season against one another on Sunday.

The game is being played at Madison Square Garden at 6 p.m. ET, and it has play-in seeding implications -- but actually no playoff meaning near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

The Hornets are one of the NBA's hottest teams.

The Knicks would simply like to go into the playoffs feeling good.

How Knicks, Hornets game matters on Sunday

The Knicks actually have no meaning in the standings from Sunday's game. No matter what happens, New York will remain the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference.

Despite already knowing their seed, the Knicks don't know their opponent yet. That will only be determined by action elsewhere in the league on Sunday.

The Hornets still have something to play for, though. They're in the play-in tournament for sure, but their seed isn't set.

The Hornets would be the 9-seed in the East with a win over the Knicks. If they lose and the Miami Heat win their game, Charlotte is the 10-seed.

That impacts home court for the play-in. The Hornets would host the Heat if they're the 9-seed seed, but if they drop to 10th, they'd travel to Miami.

Either way, Charlotte will need to win two play-in games to advance into the actual playoff field and take on 1-seed Detroit.
