Kendrick Perkins did not waste many words on the idea of LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Clippers.
The rumor gained traction because James is nearing another major career decision, but Perkins made it clear he does not see the cross-town move as realistic.
His response turned the speculation into a joke before the debate could get too serious.

Kendrick Perkins hilariously shoots down the LeBron James to LA Clippers rumor
Kendrick Perkins reacted on X after the Clippers were floated as a possible landing spot for LeBron James if his Lakers future changes.
Perkins wrote, “I gotta better chance of losing 100 pounds by this Friday.”
The line worked because it was both self-deprecating and dismissive. Perkins was not offering a detailed cap breakdown; he was simply saying the move sounds almost impossible to him.
The Clippers link has become a talking point because James is approaching unrestricted free agency after playing the 2025-26 season on his $52.6 million player option with the Lakers.
That contract situation gives every rumor room to breathe, especially with the Lakers trying to balance James’ timeline with their long-term future around Luka Doncic.
LeBron James’ LA Clippers talk still feels complicated
The reason the Clippers keep appearing in the conversation is not difficult to understand, even if the path itself remains messy.
James already lives in Los Angeles, his family and business interests are rooted in Southern California, and a move to the Clippers would allow him to change teams without changing cities.
The Tyronn Lue connection also fuels the idea. James won the 2016 NBA title with Lue in Cleveland, and their relationship has long been viewed as one of the strongest coach-player bonds of his career.
Rich Paul’s public line that he “likes the Clippers” only added more attention, even if it did not amount to a real prediction that James would leave the Lakers. The basketball and financial realities make the rumor far harder to sell.
The Clippers would need a workable salary path, James would likely have to accept a major pay cut, and there is still no clear sign the Lakers are ready to move on from him.
Perkins’ joke landed because the Clippers idea is intriguing enough to trend, but difficult enough to mock. Until the money and motivation line up, it remains more rumor fuel than a believable move.
