It's Day 3 of the NFL's legal tampering period, and many NFL teams have already made a flurry of moves and adjustments ahead of the opening of the 2026 league year. The Washington Commanders are among the teams that have added players, but there is still plenty of work to do.

The 2026 NFL Draft is over a month away, but as teams begin to bring in free agents, it becomes clearer who they might draft when the time comes in April. ESPN's Field Yates put out a new mock draft, and he's predicting the Commanders will address their run game in the first round.

Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame

The Commanders landed one of the best free agent pass rushers in Odafe Oweh, which checks the box for their most pressing need and enables general manager Adam Peters to take my No. 2 prospect in this class. We can debate the merits of taking a running back early in perpetuity, but Love is a dynamic, dual-threat player who would instantly supercharge what was a middle-of-road backfield last season. Teaming up Love with Jayden Daniels could be a lot of fun.

While many analysts and insiders believe the Tennessee Titans will select Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, Yates actually predicts the Titans will select a wide receiver with their first pick. With only the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns in between the Titans and Commanders, it's probable that Love will be there if the Titans don't take him.

Losing Austin Ekeler after trading away Brian Robinson Jr. was a huge hit on the Commanders' run game in 2025. Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Chris Rodriguez Jr. certainly held their own as a duo, but the Commanders don't have a "star" running back. Love could be that guy, and with the Commanders extending Laremy Tunsil's contract, Love will have some solid running lanes.

We won't really know what the Commanders plan to do in the first round until the time comes, and while adding Love to this roster sounds like a dream, he's got to be available at No. 7, and that might be asking a little too much this year.

It will be interesting to see if Washington's early moves in free agency give us any clues about its intentions in the 2026 NFL Draft.
