Giannis Antetokounmpo and Gary Trent Jr. had dominant stat lines in Game 5. Still, Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton's two-way performance slammed the door shut on any hope for the Milwaukee Bucks. Haliburton saved his best performance vs. the Bucks in Game 5 as the Pacers beat the Antetokounmpo-led team 119-118.

Trailing 30-13 after the first quarter, the Pacers appeared dead in the water, as the Bucks found resurgence in a win-or-go-home dilemma. However, one of the strongest defensive outings from Haliburton, along with clutch baskets from the Pacers' point guard, changed the game's trajectory.

In the face of a 12-point scoring burst by Trent Jr, the Pacers point guard maintained a veteran poise, despite missing a layup and two consecutive open 3-point shots in overtime. Haliburton scored five points in the last 17 seconds of overtime, flipping what should have been a Bucks win on its head into a heroic performance that advanced the Pacers to the second round for the second consecutive season.

Haliburton finished Game 5 with 26 points on 45.4 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent from 3, and dished nine assists to only one turnover. However, for as clutch as his offense was, his defense told the story of the game.

Without Haliburton's hounding of his defensive assignments, the Pacers would be playing a Game 6 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

The Pacers' point guard accumulated three steals and three blocks in Game 5.

One of Haliburton's steals came from a will-imposing effort on Antetokounmpo. Haliburton led the Pacers' 20-point comeback due to a formidable defensive outing. Considering Antetokounmpo was on the other side of the action, Haliburton outplaying the 2021 NBA champion in such a role bodes well for a much-improved defensive Pacers squad.

Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo finished Game 5 with 20 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Although Antetokounmpo appeared to have the better counting stats, the Pacers' defense forced the Bucks star to commit seven turnovers.

After NBA players anonymously labeled Haliburton "overrated," the point guard responded accordingly, with a performance shedding any doubt that he is a legitimate player in the NBA.
