Chicago Bears rookie cornerback Zah Frazier had someone in his corner before the team drafted him in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Bears defensive backs coach Al Harris was making the case for Frazier back in February when he texted general manager Ryan Poles about how he liked Frazier's fit on this defense.
Frazier got the opportunity to learn from Harris last weekend during rookie minicamp, where Frazier called it a "blessing" to be coached by the former All-Pro cornerback. It's easy to see what Harris sees in Frazier, who has a similar build to when he played in the NFL. Harris was 6-foot-1 while Frazier possesses impressive size at 6-foot-3.
Frazier said that Harris is working with him on his stance, and it's already paying dividends. During a rookie minicamp practice, Frazier recorded a pass breakup on a deep ball down the left sideline against receiver John Jackson, per The Athletic.
“I was press-man. He gave me a good release,” Frazier said. “I kinda, I stabbed him. I just played my technique and I didn’t panic. And once you don’t panic, good things happen. So that was a good thing, having a little PBU. I want the ball, though.”
Frazier is a certified ballhawk. He recorded a school-record six interceptions last season with UTSA. It's something the Bears would love to see more of.
“Probably the biggest thing is you got a big, long press corner that can run,” said defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. “He made a play out there today along the left sidelines — defensively, as you look at it — and that’s kind of what we saw with him. Here’s another guy that’s a young, developmental corner. He’s got a lot of things that he’s got to learn, but he’s got the tools for us to work with.”
Continuing to learn from Harris, and some talented veterans like Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson, will be beneficial as Frazier looks to make a name for himself early as a rookie.
