ST. LOUIS – Before the 4 Nations Tournament in mid-February, the Blues were sitting in the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference, three spots outside of a playoff spot.

Since that tournament, which ended Feb. 20, the Blues are four points clear of the next team in the whole league.

They’ve scored more, given up fewer goals and have a new team motivator.

“He’s one of the leaders in the locker room,” defenseman Cam Fowler said.

He doesn’t lace up skates or wrap his stick, but Jobu, the doll from the 1989 movie “Major League,” has proved to be a welcome addition in the Blues locker room, sitting between rookies Zach Bolduc and Dalibor Dvorsky.

“I think he’s really good at just calming people down,” said Blues center Oskar Sundqvist. “Guys can be frustrated between periods and Jobu is there to remind us to keep calm and keep going and trust in ourselves.”

On Tuesday, the Blues tied their second-longest winning streak at ten games in an overtime thriller against Detroit.

“I think he’s been a part of this run for us and we will give him the credit,” Fowler explained. “A little bit of Jobu magic that’s helped keep this thing alive.”

It’s not completely known who brought the Jobu doll in, but it’s clear he’s helped the Blues make a playoff run.

“It’s still unclear how he got there or who brought him in,” said Blues center Oskar Sundqvist. “But obviously, he’s been our good luck charm and he goes wherever we go, he’s been a huge part of this winning (streak).”

According to goalie Jordan Binnington, Jobu has brought a “vocal element to the room.”

“His second intermission speech got us going,” Binnington said following the Blues’ ninth straight victory.

The Blues will look to tie their longest ever winning streak at 11 games Thursday night.
