The social media landscape isn’t always kind to athletes, and Alperen Sengun shared his tough experience on X.
Houston Rockets fans had big expectations for their team last season, but Alperen Sengun and his co-stars failed to live up to those.
The team finished as the 5th seed in the Western Conference and lost in the first round of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Throughout the season, many stories circulated on social media, including X, about disharmony within the roster. And according to the 2-time All-Star, that was too much for him to handle.

Alperen Sengun decided to quit the ‘dangerous’ social media website
The anonymity that social media, especially a website like X, provides, allows people to be as toxic as they want without too much fear of consequence.
Sengun addressed his issues with it and why he left, as shared in his interview with Socrates Dergi.
“When we lost games, everyone looking from the outside tried to attack us and find any small thing they could pick on. They tried to pit us against each other.
“Attacking me through the coach. Because there are so many people out there who want to see us fail, you know? That’s actually why I deleted Twitter (X),” Sengun said.
He added, “After a certain point, I said, ‘What a dangerous place this is.’ It really drains a person mentally. It makes you second-guess and think, ‘Could something that isn’t real actually be true?’ Such wild things came out.”
Being a world-renowned athlete requires a person to be thick-skinned, but they are human too. If Sengun and the Rockets do figure it out, though, hopefully they can return to enjoying the adulation.
