TISHOMINGO — The Ada High School softball team appeared to have the Class 4A No. 14 Tishomingo Lady Indians right where it wanted them during a Monday night road matchup.
However, the host Lady Indians pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Ada 12-9.
The Lady Cougars headed to the playoffs with a 5-14 mark, while Tishomingo improved to 21-8. Ada is at Chandler today for Class 5A District Tournament action.
Tishomingo 12, Ada 9
Despite the tough loss, Ada had one of its best offensive outings of the year. The Lady Cougars piled up 14 hits, including three home runs and a pair of doubles.
Ada struck for four runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead in the back-and-forth affair.
Ariana Munoz led off the inning with a double and Brayleigh Stephens put runners at the corners with a base hit.
Eden Alexander then emptied the bases with a three-run homer that tied the game at 8-8.
Makenzi Burden followed with a solo blast over the left field fence that put Ada ahead 9-8. The Lady Cougars got another runner to second base with only one out but couldn’t get another run on the board.
After tying the game at 9-9 following an Ada error, the Lady Indians scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles from Jolee Prentice and Jordyn Hook and a sacrifice fly from Emily Austin.
Munoz and Stephens had three hits apiece to pace the Lady Cougars at the plate. Stephens finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Munoz also went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
Both of Burden’s hits were home runs. She cracked a three-run homer in the top of the third inning that forged a 5-5 tie and finished with four RBIs. Alexander finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored for the locals.
Starla Hudson ended up 2-for-4 for Ada and Laila Ferree had a hit and scored a run.
Austin paced a 16-hit Tish offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Brailey Reinhart finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored and Keilee Maxey went 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored. Kaydence Kemp and Keaton Stover hit doubles for the home team.
