DURANT — The Ada High School girls tennis team brought home the first-place trophy Tuesday from the Durant Invitational.
The Lady Cougars piled up 27 total points and finished well ahead of second-place Duncan at 16 points. Host Durant was third with 15 and McAlester finished fourth at 12.
The Ada boys were runners-up at Durant. Duncan won the team title with 24 points and the Cougars followed with 15. McLester was third at 11 and Ardmore finished fourth with 7.
GIRLS
Ada’s Kylee Witt won the No. 1 Singles championship with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Tiana Braxton of Duncan.
The Lady Cougars also won titles in both doubles divisions.
The Ada team of Jessi Bolin and Zoey Brown eased past Bowen and Bailee Howard of Duncan 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 Doubles title matchup.
In No. 2 Doubles, Ada’s Taylor Cook and Jerzie O’Neal secured a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over R. Miller and Gracie Thiebaud of Duncan in the finals.
The Lady Cougars are now off until traveling to the Braver Tournament at Heritage Hall High School on Friday, May 2.
BOYS
The Cougars were runners-up in three divisions in Durant.
In No. 2 Doubles, Drake Cody and Cedar Thomas dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Churchman/Caleb McFatridge of Duncan in a tight title matchup.
The Duncan duo of Cole Crimmons and Brilen Davis needed three sets to slip past Ada’s Matthew Anderson and Owen Moon 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 in the No. 1 Doubles championship battle.
Gavin Cobble of Duncan got the best of Leyton Jacobs of Ada in the finals of the No. 2 Singles bracket.
Ada’s Gus Byrd captured third place in No. 1 Singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Wyatt Phillips of McAlester.
The Ada boys host their own rain-delayed Ada Tournament next Monday.
