It’s been an interesting past two years for fans of Indiana football and perhaps an even more interesting two for everyone else, who’ve watched a once downtrodden program rise all the way to the sport’s mountaintop.

Among those in the latter camp is legendary former Purdue quarterback Drew Brees, who Bob Pockrass asked about the Hoosiers’ rise and eventual national title during an appearance as grand marshal of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Naval Base Coronado.

Brees addressed Indiana’s history, complimented Cignetti and lamented the current state of college football.

Here’s his full answer:

Drew Brees is here to give command for the OReilly race. I asked the former Purdue quarterback what he thought of Indiana winning the NCAA football championship (I didn't say I was an IU grad). He gave a thoughtful answer and analysis of college football. @NASCARONFOX@CFBONFOXpic.twitter.com/5zdgDSP7ze
