The rule was placed just for that reason...BLind siding players with high hits. Look at the replay ...their helmets connected... Here is the rule

"The third accepted proposal involves a play in which Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward made a block that resulted in a broken jaw for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers. A 15-yard penalty will be enforced if a player delivers a blindside block to the head of a defender using his helmet, forearm or shoulder. The penalty will be enforced if a helmet, shoulder or forearm strikes the head or neck of the defender."

That play was cheap, illegal and he should be banned next game. It is exactly what Hines Ward does...tees off on a player who had no idea someone was coming....I hope in fact the player from new Orleans blows out every ligament in both knees. and must be moved to the front office. Because when you read and know this rule....The Cardinals should have taken out Brees till next year...sorry but you fight for your General...and it was a cheap play.

Watch him get fined ALOT of money.....look up the rule if you guys doubt it.

1 more thing...I mean anytime a turnover happens...why not go target the other teams best player and set them up for a blind crushing... I mean the Saints and thier fans might think it was legit...but the rule clearly states you cant tee off on blinded players...which is exactly he did..

It wasn't illegal according to the rule you just posted. Warner got hit in the shoulder, not head or neck.

No Go look at th replay...he hits him with his helmet on Warners helmet....I have watched it 10 times....The rule was placed exactly for the hit he did....Obviously you can never spear or hit any player helmet to helmet...So this rule was placed for the blind hits where offensive players do after turnovers.....they tee off on defensless blind sided players....

My point will be proven when he gets fined...you watch and see.

Not even close to comparable.

The only thing that the Saints player was trying to do with his head was get in front of Warner. Hines Ward lowered his head into Rivers mask.

Earth...the play Hines Ward did was of course worse...but the new rule was implemeted to protect any player who doesnt see the defender coming....the guy took 3 steps bent his knees and launched himself full force at Warner ...his helmet hit Warner's helmet...ill get the replay to show u.....the Saints helmet hits Warners face mask.

Wow. I guess that people are going to see what they want to see.

The Saints player hit him from the side. Not going for the head but the shoulder.

Ward stuck his helmet right in Rivers face. How is this identical?

Earth...The plays are close...no matter how you lookat it...he hit warner hard enough to decleet him...and it was blind sided....I mean the block could have really Hurt Warner..he was lucky...I am pretty sure with all the fines they have given A Dub for much more legal hits IMO then this should have been flagged.....The league made this rule for a reason....I mean Helmet to helmet is a basic call period...why add the Hines Ward rule then?????

here is the Warner hit.....helmets connect.
I will say that the heads do make contact. I do recognize that, bit there is a world of difference between those two hits. The Saints player didn't lead with his head to Warner. I don't think that it is cheap shot. Ward lead with his head at Rivers head.

When I saw it live I thought he hit Kurt in the head. But on replay he clearly didn't. Tough hit but not against the rules.

That play ended the game IMHO. Kurt wasn't the same after and we were so far behind we couldn't run much.

Replay the game without Urban's fumble and Kurt's pick and I think it's a very close game but our defense still would have had to play better.

Yes....but the BLIND SIDE part is what makes the hit illegal and the helmets hitting.

Guys its the blind side hit that is illegal...his shoulder still hit him high enough...and their helmets hit....The reason why they implemented it was to protect players who were defenseless in seeing the guy coming....

The Saints player didn't deliver the hit to Warner's head, he delivered it to Warner's shoulder...with his shoulder.

Ok...remember the ADub play..when they called him for 15 yard penalty on Todd Heap 2 years ago?? he was still fined..and that play was more legit than this one...

I guess we will see....if they fine him than the league is saying illegal.

I guess we will see. Should have gone for his legs then? Maybe his ribs? Oh no, his bad hip.

ok so I just watched this hit a few times and mccray leads with his shoulder and hits warner squarely on his right front pec. the hit was so hard that it gave warner a whiplash effect with his head as his body was going one way his head went toward mccray so the helmets did hit but it was more from the origanl hit causing body parts to go ceartain ways. If you say this is an illegal hit then we could call helmet to helmet hits on almost every play cause i see a lot of helmets hit each other but its more from the origanl hits causing momentuem of body parts to go ceartain ways. I would like to thank the card fans that support that was a legal hit... and for the card fans that want to say that was a cheap helmet to helmet hit then i have to ask where were you last week on the helmet to helmet hit the cards did on rodgers at the end of the game?... any wasys yall had a good seson and best of luck to you next year WHO DAT!!

Funny you should illustrate the Ward/Rivers hit. They look like the same freakin' play to me.

Even if the play was withing the rules of the game; the guy laid into Warner with the intent to injure him. Maybe legal, but nonetheless, definitely CHEAP!

I'll repeat what I said during the game: it was not illegal, but it was absolutely unessecary.

Do we really have to make a whining thread??

I thought we were better than that.

We got our asses handed to us today.
End of story.
