Winter Super Teams are on their way, but before we get there, we need help from our readers.
This year, our readers will help determine our players of the year in every sport.
Much like we did with the Male and Female Athletes of the Year, our readers will have a say in who our Players of the Year are. We've cut down the list of the best of the best into an even more elite group (no easy task). We limited each school to a maximum of one candidate.
Vote for our High School GirlsHockey Player of the Year. Reader votes will make up 25% of the tally, with Sports Editor Laurie Los Lee making up the rest of the vote.
Voting will conclude on Friday, April 25.
With 10 goals and 15 assists as a senior, Curran surpassed 100 points for her career this year as the Spartans made a historic run to the Div. 1 state final for the first time in the program’s history. “A good skater who is strong on pucks and hard to play against,” said head coach Bill Theodore.
The freshman goaltender was instrumental in Bishop Stang’s run to the Div. 1 state final with her performance in net. She led the team with a 1.51 GAA and .938 save percentage. “A hardworking and tenacious competitor (she) kept us in games many times,” said Theodore.

In her second year of varsity hockey, Rioux led the Div. 1 state finalist Spartans in scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points, earning Catholic Central League All-Star honors. “She is a gifted skater who centers our top line,” Theodore said. “She can control the outcome of a game and makes her teammates better with her playmaking skills.”
