The 5A girls golf regular season came to a close this week with the final region tournament, with the focus now shifting to the 5A state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Riverbend Golf Course.
Cyprus, Bonneville, Skyline and Wasatch won their respective region championships and will each be in the hunt for the 5A state title.
Woods Cross is the defending state champ having won its first-ever state title a year ago. The Wildcats finished third in Region 6 this year behind Skyline and Brighton.
Skyline (314.8) and Brighton (327) and the two lowest scoring averages in 5A this season and will be the top contenders at state.
The low golfers in each 3A region were Cyprus’ Taylor Fresh (88.4), Bonneville’s Whitni Johnson (75.23), Brighton’s Cade Cook (73.7) and Salem Hills’ Navy Hubbs (70).
Johnson is the reigning 5A medalist as she finished four strokes better than runner-up Hubbs a year ago at Glendale Golf Course. the two golfers will be among the front runners again.
