What can you tell me about Shivers. The rams took him at the end of the 5th round and Kiper was raving about it being a great pick so late. However, I hear that many ASU fans don't think too highly of his ability, especially in coverage. Any thoughts. Thanks.

He'll be a solid spot player and special-teamer. Might be (a little) better in coverage than Archuleta, but doesn't hit as hard or anything. Don't get your hopes up. He was good value when they got him, but you don't really want him starting.

If he ends up starting at FS for y'all, you're in worse shape defensively than I thought.

Nice size, speed etc, but his measurables really didnt add up to on field production. Perhaps it was because he was the one of the better players on a really bad defense. Good special teams player.

I know Mel loved him, but I thought fifth round was about right for him.

I think he's a good pick-up for safety. The dude can ouright hit. He led our team (ASU) in tackles for 3 years. He has a tendency to stay on his receiver when the play is already progressing, but has great closing speed - if he can learn how to look both at the rec & at the play, he'd be golden!

His hops aren't as high as I'd have liked, but the guy plays with intensity each & every hit.

He's got good size - 6'0" +/- & is just shy of 200 lbs. He's got good speed and did I say he can hit?

He always seemed to be around the ball - causing fumbles, recovering fumbles, pass def's, ints, sacks, etc. He has a very good nose for the ball.

He's strong - if he can add 10 lbs & maintain his speed, he'll be around for years. The guy has a tremendous work ethic & plays through pain.

I'm going to hate seeing him vs the Cards.

Thanks all. With Aeneas Williams getting up there in age Jason Shivers may get more playing time than he should this year. Rich Coady backs up at both safety positions and goes in when AW lines up at CB in 3+ WR sets, so if/when someone goes down shivers is bound to see more time than he is probably ready for. The rams only other backup S at this point is Shane Walton who was a CB in college, he spent most of last year on the IR.

"Suga" Shivers was one of the few consistent playmakers on the ASU defense. Great pickup!
