The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to turn their fortunes around after what has been an injury-plagued first half of the season.

The Blue Jays are currently third in the American League East with a 33-36 record and are nine games out of first place in the division behind the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees.

In addition to its standing in the division, Toronto is also 1.5 games behind the Texas Rangers for the final American League wild card spot.

The Blue Jays will have a great opportunity to get back to .500, make up ground in the division and regain a wild card spot in an upcoming three-game series against the Yankees.

The three-game set will take place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, but game one of the series will start at an unusual time for Toronto.

The Jays will take on New York in game one at 7:37 p.m. ET on Friday, a half-hour delay from the former's usual start time in night games of 7:07 p.m. ET.

Toronto isn't the only team in the major leagues that has had to make time or date adjustments this month, and it's due to one of the biggest international sporting events there is.

The Blue Jays' delayed start is due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. On Friday, which will feature Canada taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina. That match will take place at 3 p.m. ET at BMO Field, approximately 5.4 kilometers away from Rogers Centre.

The half-hour delay will allow Toronto fans to plan ahead for the added travel time, which will include heavy crowds and several road closures.

Public transit will be increased throughout the duration of the FIFA World Cup.

The Blue Jays will enter their series against the Yankees having seen significant returns to the team.

Starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Max Scherzer both made their returns in Toronto's previous series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Catcher Alejandro Kirk and starting pitcher Shane Bieber could also make their respective returns during the series against New York.

The Blue Jays entered this season with legitimate World Series aspirations after winning their first American League pennant since 1993.

This season hasn't gone the way many Toronto fans anticipated going into it, in large part due to the aforementioned injuries. But, the series against the Yankees could mark a turning point for the Blue Jays.
