Finally, the NBA has announced when it will announce its 2025-26 MVP winner. The announcement of the announcement had most folks on pins and needles. With the 2026 NBA playoffs entering the final four stage, the prestigious trophy recipient will be known by the end of the weekend.
The NBA will announce its 2025-26 MVP award winner on Sunday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Amazon Prime crew will get the honor before the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers face off in a Game 7.
Of course, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a vested interest. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic are the finalists for the MVP award. And reading the tea leaves, it feels like Gilgeous-Alexander should comfortably win it in back-to-back years.
Gilgeous-Alexander had another superb year. He averaged 31.1 points on 55.3% shooting, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 68 games. The Thunder had an NBA-best 64-18 record. All of the advanced metrics and eyeball test paint him as the league's best player this season.
It'd be a nice way to cap off a mini-vacation for the Thunder. They'll have a week between games as they will host the San Antonio Spurs to start the 2026 Western Conference Finals on Monday. The highly anticipated series has all sorts of historic stakes on the line in a matchup of the NBA's best two teams this season.
The winner of the 2025-26 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award will be revealed by @NBAonPrime on Sunday, May 17 at 7:30 PM ET.
