Better late than never.
While Smithfield softball ace Maddie Bose had an alarm-clock mishap that caused her to miss the start of Saturday’s game against Bay View, the Sentinels’ bats were more than ready for the 9 a.m. start.
Gianna Tutt held down the fort in the circle in the first inning, Smithfield pile on seven runs in the bottom half and Bose took control from there as the Sentinels tamed the Bengals with a 12-2 win.
Fighting for a first-round home playoff game, Smithfield needed a win over Bay View to help increase its chances. Not having Bose immediately available wasn’t idea, but she got to the game and got ready to go as Giannah Tutt was helped by a double-play ball in a clean first inning.
The Sentinels put runs on the board in a hurry, as an Ava Lopez two-run double started a seven run rally that saw Mei Li Mitchell drive in a run and Joy Matteson clear the bases with a three-run double.
Bose took the ball in the second inning and took control. She threw the remaining six innings, giving up three hits and one earned run while walking two and coming up with four strikeouts.
Smithfield’s offense answered Bay View’s scores and up 11-2 in the sixth, Mitchell gave them the walk-off win when she scored on a wild pitch.
Matteson finished the day with three RBI and two runs. Freshman Gia Marcaccio had a nice day from the eighth spot in the order, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Sophia Parrillo finished 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI and Lopez drove in a pair and scored once. Mitchell scored twice and had one RBI in the win.
Lexi Fredricks and Liz Rothemich drove in the runs for Bay View.
With the win, Smithfield improves to 6-9 and is in 11th in the Division I RPI standings. Bay View drops to 3-12 and sits in 12th place.
Cody Van Wormer came in to pitch five-plus innings of strong relief and the Skippers provided plenty of pop in a 9-3 win over the Oakers.
North Kingstown scored twice in the bottom of the first, but Coventry rallied in the second and forced Van Wormer’s entrance into the game. The sophomore handled business well and went on to throw 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball with one walk.
Down 3-2 heading to the bottom of the second, the Skippers tied the game on an RBI single by Colton Kim and got an RBI single from Brandon Venditto to take the lead for good. NK scored three in the inning and added three more in the third to make things more comfortable.
Venditto had a day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs. Kim finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI and Chris Ciarniello was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Jason Pelletier scored twice in the win.
Aidan Bocompani was the star of the Coventry offense, finishing his day 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
North Kingstown improves to 7-6 with the win and is in 10th place in the RPI standings. Coventry drops to 1-12 and remains in 15th in the RPI standings.
Ben Hallene threw a five-hit shutout and the Townies raked like it was late October in a 15-0 win over the Patriots.
The offense set the tone early, as Jayden Healey’s two-run double and Jonathan Renaud’s two-run single had East Providence up 4-0 before Portsmouth could take a swing. The Townies put up six in the second and four in the third before adding a final run in the fifth.
Hallene didn’t need the help. The senior allowed five hits in his five-inning complete game and finished with seven strikeouts.
Every Townie who stepped to the plate had a hit. Renaud went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Healey finished with three RBI and two runs. Gavin Palumbo went 3-for-5 with three runs and Aidan Martins also scored three times. Max Carreiro finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run and Chris Charbonneau and Max Pawlik both drove in two runs and scored once.
East Providence improves to 10-2 overall and is third in the RPI standings. Portsmouth drops to 1-12 and is in 16th in the 17-team division.
The Huskies came up big with eight runs in the final three innings to put away New Bedford, 10-6, to pick up their first win of the season.
Tied at two heading to the fifth, a Trace Dubois and Will Francis hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to put Mt. Hope ahead 4-2. In the sixth, John Thompson hit a two-run double and Rhys Davies brought him in with a double, then scored on a single by Brian Abbruzzi.
Up 8-2, New Bedford tried to come back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Huskies added two more in the seventh to put the game away.
Abbruzzi had a nice day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Dubois and Francis both drove in a pair and Davies scored three times. Travis Furtado went 3-for-4 with two runs in the win.
Mt. Hope is 1-13 and in last in the Division I standings.
Landon Sumner gave the Chargers a lead they never let go of as the runs kept coming in durin g a 15-5 win over the Bulldogs.
Westerly – which plays in Division I - scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but Chariho tied the score on a bases-loaded walk that was followed by a hit-by-pitch. Sumner hit an RBI single and a wild pitch gave the Chargers a 4-2 lead.
The Bulldogs got one run back in the bottom of the second, but Chariho didn’t stop scoring. Up 5-3 heading to the fourth, the Chargers put four on the board and scored one in the sixth before pounding out five runs in the sixth.
Sumner had a day, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Leo Emery came through, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Rohan Downing scored three runs and drove in one and Milo Clarke drove in two and scored twice. Ethan Jeannenot scored two runs in the win.
Dante Pruitt drove in two runs for Westerly and Matteo Hackett scored twice in the loss.
Chariho improves to 11-5 with the win and is in seventh in the Division II RPI standings. Westerly drops to 4-11 overall and is in 14th in the Division I RPI standings.
The Wizards put up double digits before fans could find their seats in a 13-2 win over the Northmen.
West Warwick must have wanted to beat the rain because the offense showed up and showed out immediately. The Wizards manufactured two quick runs, then ripped off three straight hits and got a walk to make it 7-0. Nick Andruchow followed with a three-run triple to give West Warwick a 10-0 lead over their Division III foe.
Kole Kilduff made sure not to give it away, working four efficient innings to maintain the sizeable advantage and pick up the win.
Andruchow had a big afternoon, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Joseph Rivera went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs and Anthony Burt scored twice and drove in one run. Logan Fernandes drove in two and scored one run and Jair Blanco had a great day from the back of the order, going 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Dylan Nickerson had a double, scored one run and drove in another in the loss for North Smithfield.
West Warwick moves to 12-3 on the season and sits second in the Division II RPI. North Smithfield drops to 5-6 overall and is 10th in the Division III RPI standings.

The Crusaders came up clutch late, as three straight sixth-inning hits helped them take the lead for good before coming away with a 7-5 win over the Quakers.
Prout opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Moses Brown added one run in the fourth before stringing together hits to pile on four in the fifth, grabbing a 5-2 lead.
The Crusaders got one back in the bottom half and rode that momentum to the sixth. Following a double by Caroline Smith, Emma Sechio hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4. Lily Sheehan followed with a game-tying RBI single and Mia Boyajian gave Prout the lead with a single of her own. Sheehan scored on a defensive miscue by Moses Brown for the game’s final run.
Boyajian led the Prout offense with her 3-for-4 performance that saw her score twice and drive in one run. Sara Slitt scored one run and drove in another in the win.
Celia Bodurtha had a big day at the plate for Moses Brown, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
Prout improved to 6-8 win the win and is in 10th in the RPI standings. Moses Brown is now 2-14 and sits 13th in the RBI standings.
Frankie Arnold overcame a tough first inning and the Bulldogs’ bats came alive late in a 5-2 win, handing the Skippers their first loss of the season in the process.
Arnold didn’t start her day great, giving up a one-out walk and then three straight singles that had North Kingstown up 2-0 before Westerly could pick up a bat. Things changed after that as Arnold flummoxed the Skippers for the remaining six innings. She threw all seven innings, giving up seven hits and two runs and finished with 11 strikeouts.
The Bulldogs got the runs back in the third on an RBI single by Danica Gingeralla and an RBI single from Addison Poole. Arnold helped her own cause in the fifth with a two-run double that put Westerly up for good.
Ella Keegan went 2-for-4 with one run for Westerly. Gingerella scored twice and drove in one run and Arnold had two RBI. The Bulldogs improved to 10-3 and are fifth in the RPI standings.
Rosemarie Hayward went 2-for-3 with one RBI for NK. Gabby Peralta had two hits and scored once in the loss, which drops the Skippers to 16-1. They remain third in the RPI standings.
Mary McGovern hit a grand slam as part of a six-run second inning and Kelsey Knutton was brilliant in the circle in the Oakers’ 10-1 win over Kent County.
Kent Country – which plays in Division II – struck first, but Coventry responded in a big way in the top of the second. Mackenzie Stevens hit a two-run home run to give the Oakers a 2-1 lead and with two outs and the bases juiced, McGovern went deep for the grand slam home run.
Knutton was in control the rest of the morning. After giving up the run in the first, the freshman threw six shutout innings and finished giving up five hits while striking out four.
The home runs were the lone hits for both Stevens and McGovern. Knutton helped her cause, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Addison Kerwin scored twice in the win.
Reagan Motta scored the lone run for Kent County, which earns valuable RPI points for playing a team from a higher division. Kent County is now 5-10 overall and in fourth in the D-II RPI standings.
Coventry’s record is unclear. The Oakers coaches and administrators have failed to put results in for several games that would affect the RPI standings. Coventry is listed with a 4-7 record and is ninth in the Division I RPI standings.
Sofia Haberman’s triple ignited a massive rally as the Huskies turned a deficit into a comfortable 14-3 win over the Islanders.
Mt. Hope struck first with two runs, but Division-III Middletown answered with three to take a 3-2 lead into the second inning. It didn’t last long.
Haberman flipped the scoreboard with a two-run triple to put the Huskies up 4-3 and the hitting didn’t stop after that. Lily DaSilveira followed with an RBI single and Mt. Hope later strung three straight hits together to go up 9-3. Runs kept coming in and DaSilveira’s RBI double capped a 12-run inning that put the Huskies ahead 14-3.
It was a big day for the top of Mt. Hope’s order. Haberman, the No. 3 hitter, went 2-for-2 with four RBI and scored three times. DaSilveira, batting cleanup, was 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run and No. 2 hitter Aubrey Birchall finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
Tayla Simas had two hits, drove in one run and scored one. Madison Andrews went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run and Hailey Ferreira scored three times in the win. Mt. Hope is 3-9 overall and in last in the Division II RPI standings.
Delaney King had two hits and one RBI in the loss for Middletown. The Islanders earn RPI points for playing against a D-II team, but their record drops to 9-6 overall and they’re sixth in the D-III RPI standings.
The ball was flying off the Eagles’ bats, as they hit four home runs in their 12-0 win over the Spartans.
Barrington’s home-run derby started in the first inning, when Zoe Kelsey led off with a homer and three batters later, Maya Etheridge hit a two-run shot for a 3-0 lead. Up 4-0 going to the third, Grace Fontaine went deep and in the fourth, Cora Floriani put an exclamation point on the win with a grand slam that gave the Eagles a 9-0 lead.
The Eagles walked off with a win in the fourth when Emily Peluso hit a single that brought in Aubrey Paxton, bringing the 12-run rule into play.
Floriani went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs, Kelsey was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Fontaine went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Etheridge finished 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs. Grace Saltzman had two hits, drove in one run and scored another.
Paxton threw an abbreviated perfect game, striking out five batters in her four innings of work.
Barrington is now 7-5-1 and in fifth in the RPI standings. Scituate falls to 2-8 and is in 11th in the RPI standings.
Division I

The Rams asserted their dominance early and often as 12 different players scored in the 22-8 win over the Hawks.
La Salle didn’t waste time with rival Hendricken and put the game away before halftime hit. Up 13-3 at the break, the Rams were able to work deep into the bench and get valuable experience for potential playoff players and future stars.
Quincy Marino led La Salle with three goals. Nick Loo had two scores and three assists and Tanner Poirier, Bodey Brzoza and Lachlan Got each scored twice and had one assist. Riley Strough and Charles Rodehorst both scored twice in the win.
Also scoring for La Salle was Tripp Peterson, Kian Parker, Luca Marenghi, Dylan Fitzgerald, Mike Hayes, Reid Kelley and Spencer Viera. Fitzgerald dominated the faceoff circle, winning 16 of 9, and Marenghi won 6 of 9. Connor Kelley made six saves in the win.
K.J. Lough led Hendricken with three goals and one assist. Max Casten scored twice for the Hawks and Will Kornacki, Richie Sousa and Tristan Andrews had the other scores.
La Salle is now 10-3 overall and in first in the RPI standings. Hendricken falls to 5-5 and sits fifth in the RPI.
The Spartans continued their dominant season as Grant Bailey put on a show in a 16-4 win over the Oakers.
Scituate, the top team in Division IV, had little trouble with Division-III Coventry. Bailey was especially unstoppable, scoring nine goals to lead the Spartans.
Caden Gurjian scored twice in the win and Jon Greenhalgh and Cian Archer combined on the shutout in goal. Jacob Robinson, Brandon Amaral, Austin Dutra, Ryan Breese and Mikey Newton had one goal apiece in the win.
Scituate is 9-0 in Division IV and in first place in the RPI standings (and would be third in the D-III RPI standings). Coventry drops to 4-8 and is in sixth in the D-III RPI standings.

The Eagles held down the fort against their Massachusetts’ foe, coming back in the second half to pull off the 13-11 win.
Barrington didn’t get off to the start it wanted and trailed Scituate 6-2 in the second period before the offense found rhythm and the defense came up with some answers. Once the Eagles got rolling, Scituate couldn’t stop them.
Ashley DeCosta and Sophia Scandura led the way for Barrington, scoring four goals apiece. Kendall Blaney helped out big, scoring two in the win.
The Eagles move to 8-3 on the season and are comfortably in third place in the RPI standings.
The Quakers played one of Massachusetts’ best teams an showed where their compete level is at, as Avery Butler played the role of hero in the 12-11 win over Wellesley.
It was a back-and-forth battle all afternoon and when Moses Brown needed a big goal, it looked to their junior star. Tied at 11, Butler came through with the shot that proved to be the game-winner.
Wellesley battled to get the tying goal, but Tanner Lagor came up with a key takeaway to prevent anything from happening. Goose Brousseau picked up a final ground ball that allowed the Quakers to kill out the final minute of clock.
Samantha Mocco was crucial in the draw circle throughout the day, helping the defending state champs head home with the victory.
Moses Brown is now 8-2 on the season and sits in first in the RPI standings.
Division I
North Kingstown 8, Chariho 7
The Huskies put their defense on display as Arion Ferris led from the back in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 win over the Hurricanes.
Mt. Hope stuck with fundamentals, using good passing to get into system and take control of the match early. Ferris played a big role, coming up with 15 digs for the Huskies.
Dylan Shaw led the Mt. Hope offense with nine kills and three assists and Kai Williford had nine assists and three aces in the win.
Zioma Forges had 12 assists for Block Island and Colin Lansek had nine kills in the loss.
Mt. Hope is now 13-2 and remains in first place in the RPI standings. Block Island is 0-6 and in 10th in the RPI standings.
Prout vs. Central at PCTA, 1 p.m.

Things changed after that as Arnold flummoxed the Skippers for the remaining six innings. She threw all seven innings, giving up seven hits and two runs and finished with 11 strikeouts.
The Bulldogs got the runs back in the third on an RBI single by Danica Gingeralla and an RBI single from Addison Poole. Arnold helped her own cause in the fifth with a two-run double that put Westerly up for good.
Ella Keegan went 2-for-4 with one run for Westerly. Gingerella scored twice and drove in one run and Arnold had two RBI. The Bulldogs improved to 10-3 and are fifth in the RPI standings.
Rosemarie Hayward went 2-for-3 with one RBI for NK. Gabby Peralta had two hits and scored once in the loss, which drops the Skippers to 16-1. They remain third in the RPI standings.
Coventry 10, Kent County 1
Mary McGovern hit a grand slam as part of a six-run second inning and Kelsey Knutton was brilliant in the circle in the Oakers’ 10-1 win over Kent County.
Kent Country – which plays in Division II – struck first, but Coventry responded in a big way in the top of the second. Mackenzie Stevens hit a two-run home run to give the Oakers a 2-1 lead and with two outs and the bases juiced, McGovern went deep for the grand slam home run.
Knutton was in control the rest of the morning. After giving up the run in the first, the freshman threw six shutout innings and finished giving up five hits while striking out four.
The home runs were the lone hits for both Stevens and McGovern. Knutton helped her cause, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Addison Kerwin scored twice in the win.
Reagan Motta scored the lone run for Kent County, which earns valuable RPI points for playing a team from a higher division. Kent County is now 5-10 overall and in fourth in the D-II RPI standings.
Coventry’s record is unclear. The Oakers coaches and administrators have failed to put results in for several games that would affect the RPI standings. Coventry is listed with a 4-7 record and is ninth in the Division I RPI standings.

Mt. Hope 14, Middletown 3
Sofia Haberman’s triple ignited a massive rally as the Huskies turned a deficit into a comfortable 14-3 win over the Islanders.
Mt. Hope struck first with two runs, but Division-III Middletown answered with three to take a 3-2 lead into the second inning. It didn’t last long.
Haberman flipped the scoreboard with a two-run triple to put the Huskies up 4-3 and the hitting didn’t stop after that. Lily DaSilveira followed with an RBI single and Mt. Hope later strung three straight hits together to go up 9-3. Runs kept coming in and DaSilveira’s RBI double capped a 12-run inning that put the Huskies ahead 14-3.
It was a big day for the top of Mt. Hope’s order. Haberman, the No. 3 hitter, went 2-for-2 with four RBI and scored three times. DaSilveira, batting cleanup, was 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run and No. 2 hitter Aubrey Birchall finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
Tayla Simas had two hits, drove in one run and scored one. Madison Andrews went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run and Hailey Ferreira scored three times in the win. Mt. Hope is 3-9 overall and in last in the Division II RPI standings.
Delaney King had two hits and one RBI in the loss for Middletown. The Islanders earn RPI points for playing against a D-II team, but their record drops to 9-6 overall and they’re sixth in the D-III RPI standings.
Barrington 12, Scituate 0
The ball was flying off the Eagles’ bats, as they hit four home runs in their 12-0 win over the Spartans.
Barrington’s home-run derby started in the first inning, when Zoe Kelsey led off with a homer and three batters later, Maya Etheridge hit a two-run shot for a 3-0 lead. Up 4-0 going to the third, Grace Fontaine went deep and in the fourth, Cora Floriani put an exclamation point on the win with a grand slam that gave the Eagles a 9-0 lead.
The Eagles walked off with a win in the fourth when Emily Peluso hit a single that brought in Aubrey Paxton, bringing the 12-run rule into play.
Floriani went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs, Kelsey was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Fontaine went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Etheridge finished 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs. Grace Saltzman had two hits, drove in one run and scored another.
Paxton threw an abbreviated perfect game, striking out five batters in her four innings of work.
Barrington is now 7-5-1 and in fifth in the RPI standings. Scituate falls to 2-8 and is in 11th in the RPI standings.

La Salle 22, Hendricken 8
The Rams asserted their dominance early and often as 12 different players scored in the 22-8 win over the Hawks.
La Salle didn’t waste time with rival Hendricken and put the game away before halftime hit. Up 13-3 at the break, the Rams were able to work deep into the bench and get valuable experience for potential playoff players and future stars.
Quincy Marino led La Salle with three goals. Nick Loo had two scores and three assists and Tanner Poirier, Bodey Brzoza and Lachlan Got each scored twice and had one assist. Riley Strough and Charles Rodehorst both scored twice in the win.
Also scoring for La Salle was Tripp Peterson, Kian Parker, Luca Marenghi, Dylan Fitzgerald, Mike Hayes, Reid Kelley and Spencer Viera. Fitzgerald dominated the faceoff circle, winning 16 of 9, and Marenghi won 6 of 9. Connor Kelley made six saves in the win.
K.J. Lough led Hendricken with three goals and one assist. Max Casten scored twice for the Hawks and Will Kornacki, Richie Sousa and Tristan Andrews had the other scores.
La Salle is now 10-3 overall and in first in the RPI standings. Hendricken falls to 5-5 and sits fifth in the RPI.
BOYS LACROSSE – Division IV

Scituate 16, Coventry 4
The Spartans continued their dominant season as Grant Bailey put on a show in a 16-4 win over the Oakers.
Scituate, the top team in Division IV, had little trouble with Division-III Coventry. Bailey was especially unstoppable, scoring nine goals to lead the Spartans.
Caden Gurjian scored twice in the win and Jon Greenhalgh and Cian Archer combined on the shutout in goal. Jacob Robinson, Brandon Amaral, Austin Dutra, Ryan Breese and Mikey Newton had one goal apiece in the win.
Scituate is 9-0 in Division IV and in first place in the RPI standings (and would be third in the D-III RPI standings). Coventry drops to 4-8 and is in sixth in the D-III RPI standings.

Barrington 13, Scituate 11
The Eagles held down the fort against their Massachusetts’ foe, coming back in the second half to pull off the 13-11 win.
Barrington didn’t get off to the start it wanted and trailed Scituate 6-2 in the second period before the offense found rhythm and the defense came up with some answers. Once the Eagles got rolling, Scituate couldn’t stop them.
Ashley DeCosta and Sophia Scandura led the way for Barrington, scoring four goals apiece. Kendall Blaney helped out big, scoring two in the win.
The Eagles move to 8-3 on the season and are comfortably in third place in the RPI standings.
Moses Brown 12, Wellesley 11
The Quakers played one of Massachusetts’ best teams an showed where their compete level is at, as Avery Butler played the role of hero in the 12-11 win over Wellesley.
It was a back-and-forth battle all afternoon and when Moses Brown needed a big goal, it looked to their junior star. Tied at 11, Butler came through with the shot that proved to be the game-winner.
Wellesley battled to get the tying goal, but Tanner Lagor came up with a key takeaway to prevent anything from happening. Goose Brousseau picked up a final ground ball that allowed the Quakers to kill out the final minute of clock.
Samantha Mocco was crucial in the draw circle throughout the day, helping the defending state champs head home with the victory.
Moses Brown is now 8-2 on the season and sits in first in the RPI standings.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL – Division III
Mt. Hope 3, Block Island 0
The Huskies put their defense on display as Arion Ferris led from the back in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 win over the Hurricanes.
Mt. Hope stuck with fundamentals, using good passing to get into system and take control of the match early. Ferris played a big role, coming up with 15 digs for the Huskies.
Dylan Shaw led the Mt. Hope offense with nine kills and three assists and Kai Williford had nine assists and three aces in the win.
Zioma Forges had 12 assists for Block Island and Colin Lansek had nine kills in the loss.
Mt. Hope is now 13-2 and remains in first place in the RPI standings. Block Island is 0-6 and in 10th in the RPI standings.
