Charlie Woods saved his best golf for the final round of the Terra Cotta Invitational in Naples on Saturday.
Woods, a junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot a 3-under 69 in the third round for a tournament total of 3-over 219 at Naples National Golf Club in Naples, Florida. He finished in a tie for 42nd place in the field of 72 golfers, 15 strokes behind South Carolina mid-amateur Connor Doyal, who won by one shot over junior Dawson Lew of Toronto, Canada.
Woods, a Florida State commit, opened with a bogey on No. 1, before closing out the front nine with birdies on No. 6, 7 and 9. He played error-free on the back nine, adding one more birdie on No. 18.
Past champions of the Terra Cotta, one of the top-ranked junior events in the nation, include nine-time PGA champion Matt Kuchar (1997), whose son Cameron finished T34 in this year's tournament, and former world No. 1 golfer Justin Thomas (2010).
