The Miami Heat entered game three of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in full-out desperation mode. Already facing an 0-2 deficit and with the team having engaged in some back-and-forths in the media over Tyler Herro’s defensive efforts, Miami had the chance to at least somewhat turn the tides of the series on its own home court.
Instead, the Cavaliers landed what’s likely the death blow in what has been an already-disheartening first round effort for the Heat.
Cleveland emerged victorious in game three down in South Florida, serving Miami its worst postseason loss in franchise history with a 124-87 beatdown on Saturday afternoon. The Cavs had six players reach double-digit scoring tallies in an all-around dominant effort to put the Heat on the verge of being swept.

Even with All-Star guard Darius Garland sidelined with a toe injury, the Cavs took care of business on the offensive end with ease - namely, due to their imposing lineup in the frontcourt. Cleveland starting big men Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley led the way with 22 and 19 points, respectively, while DeAndre Hunter chipped in with a 21-points performance off the bench as well.
Interestingly enough, neither team’s leading scorer on the season proved to make much of an impact in Saturday’s contest. Both Herro and Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell finished the game with just 13 points, as neither managed to shoot above 40% from the field on the day.
Bam Adebayo did his part in keeping the Heat afloat, leading the way with 22 points and nine rebounds. However, he also coughed up six turnovers on the day, and with only three other players cracking double figures in the scoring column, Miami’s fate in game three - and potentially the series as a whole - was all but sealed.
The Heat will now look to stay alive in game four this coming Monday, while the Cavaliers will look to punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Tip-off time in that game is still yet to be determined.
