The day is finally here. The 2026 World Cup winner will be decided on Sunday, July 19, and Lamine Yamal and Spain are looking to do what their predecessors did more than a decade and a half ago.

Spain has a chance to follow up a European championship with a World Cup victory, a feat the side accomplished in 2008. Defending World Cup champion Argentina and superstar forward Lionel Messi stand in the way.

In 2010, after winning the 2008 Euros, Spain won its first World Cup. If Spain can win the 2026 World Cup it will become the seventh nation to win multiple World Cups.

Here's a look at Spain's history in the World Cup:

Has Spain ever won the World Cup?

Yes, Spain won the World Cup in 2010. That also was the only time that Spain had ever reached the World Cup final. Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time at Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Not only did the 2010 Spain team follow up its 2008 Euro win with a World Cup title, but also went on to win the 2012 Euros, defeating Italy 4-0 in the final. It's an unprecedented run of international soccer success that the current Spain team would be much obliged to repeat.
