The battle for golf's most coveted major title begins this week at Augusta National as the 2026 Masters begins.
Before the first round of the tournament on Thursday, though, we have the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday. The contest, held on a nine-hole course at Augusta, typically features a family member serving as the golfer's caddie.
Last year, the contest was won by Colombia's Nico Echavarría.
It's one of the best traditions at a pageantry-filled event, but it also carries something of a curse. To date, no golfer who has won the Par 3 Contest has gone on to win the Masters in the same year.
Twelve golfers have won both a Par 3 Contest and the Masters in their careers, most recently 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir, who won the Par 3 Contest in 2022.
The closest anyone has come to winning both in the same year is Raymond Floyd, who finished second in the Masters in 1990 after winning the Par 3 contest. Floyd was seeking his second Masters title after winning the tournament in 1976.
This year's winner will hope to change that and become the first golfer to break the "curse" since the Par 3 contest's inception in 1960.
