Hartselle, Lindsay Lane pad list as 14 local athletes land on All-State baseball team

Jun. 13—Big seasons can lead to elite honors for top players.

That was the case for 14 local players who landed on the Alabama Sportswriters Association All-State baseball team. Another seven received honorable mentions.

Six of the 14 players came from Hartselle which claimed its second-consecutive state championship, third in the last five years and 11th total this season. Those selections included senior Asher Doepel, who was named the Class 6A Player of the Year after earning back-to-back MVP honors in the state finals.

Lindsay Lane wasn't far behind with four All-State players after reaching the Class 2A quarterfinals and setting a school record for wins in a season with 33. Among their selections was sophomore Cooper Abernathy who was named Class 2A Hitter of the Year.

Austin

Trey Harville was named an honorable-mention outfielder.

Class 6A

Athens

Hudson Marks was an honorable-mention utility selection.

Hartselle

Asher Doepel (UTIL), Connor Stiles (P), Braden Weathers (IF), Cruise Baker (OF) and Cole Miles (OF) were all first-team selections.

Doepel finished the year hitting .384 with 57 runs scored and 28 RBIs, while also having a 1.82 ERA on the mound with a 5-1 record and four saves. Stiles had a 9-1 record with a 2.18 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 42 strikeouts, while Weathers batted .368 with 47 RBIs, 43 runs scored and 10 home runs. Baker hit .361 for the Tigers with 44 runs scored, 35 RBIs and 16 stolen bases and Miles batted .380 with 39 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

Barrett McKelvey was named a second-team pitcher after posting a 7-2 record with three saves. He finished with a 2.03 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 43 strikeouts.

East Limestone

Brodie Coker was named a second-team outfielder after finishing the year with a .439 average, 38 runs scored, 26 RBIs and 23 stolen bases.

Chris Fitts was an honorable-mention designated hitter.

East Lawrence

Tad Terry was an honorable-mention choice outfielder.

West Limestone

Colt Pressnell was a second-team designated hitter with a .406 average, 30 runs scored, 25 RBIs and 24 stolen bases.

West Morgan

Titan Partlow was named an honorable-mention infielder.

Class 3A

Clements

Grayson Borden was a second-team selection in the infield with a .485 average, 55 runs scored, 35 stolen bases and 23 RBIs.

Lincoln Doner was named an honorable-mention designated hitter.

Lindsay Lane

Wyatt Wallace and Cooper Abernathy were first-team selections at pitcher and designated hitter respectively. Wallace had a 7-0 record with a 1.43 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 75 strikeouts, while Abernathy hit .424 with 50 RBIs.

Maddox Ruble and Lane Jones were second-team choices at pitcher and outfield. Ruble posted a 10-0 record with a save, 2.57 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 50 strikeouts. Jones batted .412 with 48 runs scored and 36 RBIs.

Reed Dillard was named an honorable-mention designated hitter.

Athens Bible

Luke Murrell was named a first-team infielder after hitting .488 with 49 runs scored, 46 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

Chandler James was a second-team selection in the outfield with a .448 average, 51 runs scored and 30 RBIs.
