The England World Cup roster for 2026 isn't set to be announced until Friday.

But on Thursday, Harry Maguire played spoiler. The Manchester United central defender revealed that he has missed the squad.

Maguire took to social media to share a heartfelt message in which he expressed his disappointment.

"I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had," Maguire wrote on X. "I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision."

Maguire didn't keep it all doom and gloom. He added some heartfelt emotion in there, too.

"I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years," Maguire wrote.

The former England captain signed off his message with positivity (and an England flag emoji).

"I wish the players all the best this summer," Maguire concluded.

The 33-year old Maguire has 66 caps in his England international career, including seven goals.

He was part of the England squads for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

This season with Manchester United, Maguire has appeared in 22 Premier League games, notching a goal with a pair of assists.

He wasn't healthy earlier in the year but is now, having played 90 minutes on the weekend in a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, his fourth consecutive league match going the distance.

England has chosen to get younger in the center of defense, with the exact picks to be unveiled Friday. It's still a risk not to bring someone proven on the big stage like Maguire, but evidently, it's a risk the Three Lions have decided to take.
