Harry Greene article on RBs on front page

Slightly different than Mitch's take, although both seem to be saying that none of our three RBs in 2007 will be with us in 2008.

Harry's best articles are his draft articles. This one is well worth reading. And he likes the same RB I do, who some of you dismiss.

Harry seems to disagree with a recent quote from Edge. Edge said that the reason Boldin and Fitz were successful had a lot to do with the large number of defenders creeping up to stop him. He seemed to think he was having a bigger impact than his stats suggested because he opened it up for the passing game..... not that I agree with Edge, but that was his take.

Kevin Smith won't go in round 1. He may not even go in round 2 if he runs a slow 40. If the Cards do let Edge walk, i would hope they make a run at Turner but i think Seattle may make him their #1 target.

I'd love to see us go RB in rd1. We sit in a spot in the draft that is PERFECT for this class of RB's not to high (none worth a top 10 pick) but high enough to most likely get our pick of the three 1st rd backs. I know we need a CB and an edge rusher but other than Gholston, no one in my opinion at CB or OLB is worth the 1st rd pick. This draft is SO deep at CB we can look for a rd1 talent at CB in rd2. Just look at the depth of talent at CB.

not just deep -- but IMO, pretty uniform in ability. Is (for example) Leodis McKelvin that much better a prospect than Antoine Cason or Terrell Thomas (setting aside name recognition)?

I didn't know Talib ran a 4.55. That puts him into the late 1st/2nd IMO.

There is gonna be a run on CB's. It always happens for a position like that, thats loaded. They'll be 5-6 of them drafted in the 1st round. What your left with will be OK, but not one of the better prospects. By the time we pick in the 2nd your looking at possibly the 8th best prospect out of the group which gets broken down during the process, leading up to the draft.

I don't thik I want to wait that long. I'd rather take the flyer on the RB group than the CB group.

I'm not certain Turner is the fit now he once was. Some of you may remember my pleading for him from the 3rd round on in that day's draft chatroom conversation. Mark my word. It's true that the scouts are divided on Smith and I guess he could run slow enough to last until round 2. I don't care. Beyond McFadden, he's the best all round back in this draft. He's also the type who can wear down the defense. He needs some polishing, but 3 years from now, like Turner, everyone will be wishing they'd chosen him.
