Hard to believe, but this secondary actually misses Rod Hood.

Actually that's not as outrageous a statement as it initially seems. The corner play is flat out disgraceful. McFadden? Really? For all of Rod's shortcomings ( and he clearly had his share) he's a smart player and was in position most of the time, and he'd occasionaly make a play. He was clearly our best corner for much of last season, and I just miss his presence on the field. I was not happy with the move to begin with and after yesterdays sham, I'm even more disgruntled. McFadden's next play will be his first. Damn Sheldon Brown would look good in a Cardinals uniform right now! (Can't believe I'm touting the praises of an ex-and current eagle!)

The Cards have a history of signing average FA DBs that came from great defenses and were basically just looking to parlay a good SB performance into a big payday. Duane Starks, Dexter Jackson, now McFadden.

When you really look at the FA signings we have had under Whis it's been pretty ugly.

Agreed Big D. If it wasn't for his decent draft history, I'd be a little wary of his personnel evaluation.

I questioned the move after his signing. McFadden never has really done anything in the NFL his whole career because of injuries or talent. People got sooooooooo infactuated with him because he came from the Steelers. Look at his career stats and tell me he's worth $5 mil a year.:bang:

Yea philly. Breaston is awesome. Campbell seems to be coming along. And then there's uh... well... ummmm....

:D

Whis has been good at cooking the meal but has left A LOT to be desired when it comes to getting the groceries. He is a 1st time HC though and is clearly still learning on the job.

Well, he's still out there, although he tried out for the Titans today. He's already been passed over by the Bears, Browns and Patriots. Something has to be up with him. I think the tradition of sub-par CB play around here since Aeneas elevated a lot of people's opinion of Hood a little too much, myself included.

I've heard from ALOT of people that Bryant McFadden is one of the the most insightfully people in the game when it comes to studying film from the old days AND this generation football. Obviously Whiz would have known that. I've wondered from day one if he was brought in here to show DRC how to study the game. Just a thought.

I read a thread on here a few months ago saying that statistically, Rod Hood was the worst starting CB in the league because of all the TDs allowed (8) and the many coverage assignments blown. He will never be more than a Dime back ever.

I got you 82!

It's really strange. Its almost like seeing my Cards in the SB and coming so close to winning it all even though we fell short just mellowed me the hell out as far as needing to voice my opinions (usually frustrations).

BUT it's all coming back to me now! ;)

I agree, and honestly cannot figure out the love affair so many on this board have for him. He blew so many big plays, I would be willing to bet if he was here, it would have been him blowing coverage this week.

This was discussed earlier. Hood went from being rated one of the best CBs in the NFL by footballoutsiders in 2007 to unemployed after just one season. Definitely has to be something going on we don't know about.

Oddly enough I blasted Hood on this board after the Tampa game in '07 for having a day very similar to the one McFadden had Sunday in regards to tackling anyone other than the guy they were supposed to be covering.

And currently has an injury that is effecting him so much that he is currenly not employed with any NFL team.

So, no. I do not think this team misses Rod Hood. You have to wonder if Hood's health status wasn't known about early in the offseason, and whether McFadden was a FA signing from need rather than want.

Ditto. Especially on the "mellowing out" part.

I am all for bringing in hood as depth... I still cannot fathom how Matt freaking Ware is still on this team. Does he have pictures of Mike B. in a dress or something? I just dont get it...

2yrs ago though, he was statistically the 3rd best CB in the NFC IIRC. Stats are misleading.

Hood wasn't great but he was much better than most give him credit for IMO. He's still an above average nickelback IMO.

I thought he was an above average 2nd DB.
