Haaland nets hat-trick as Man City ease past Liverpool

Manchester City put Liverpool to the sword at the Etihad Stadium, running out 4-0 winners in their Emirates FA Cup quarter-final tie. The hosts took the lead on 39 minutes when Erling Haaland converted from the penalty spot, before the Norwegian struck again in first-half added time to give City a 2-0 advantage at the break.

After the interval, Manchester City kept their foot on the pedal. Antoine Semenyo made it 3-0 on 50 minutes, with Rayan Cherki providing the assist, and Haaland completed his hat-trick seven minutes later after being set up by Nico O?Reilly.

Liverpool?s night went from bad to worse when Mohamed Salah failed to convert a penalty on 64 minutes. Despite both sides finishing with 11 shots, City were more clinical in front of goal, with seven efforts on target compared with Liverpool?s five.

Pep Guardiola?s side also finished with the edge in possession, holding 54 per cent of the ball, and produced the more dangerous attacking numbers overall, with an expected goals figure of 1.82 against Liverpool?s 1.62. It was a dominant display from City, who now take a major advantage from the first leg of this quarter-final clash.
