New Tennessee Titans coach Robert Saleh has hired his top defensive deputy.
The Titans are hiring veteran defensive coach Gus Bradley as their new defensive coordinator a source told The Tennessean, giving the defensive-minded Saleh a right-hand man as the Titans try to revive a unit that finished bottom-five in points allowed and yards allowed per play in 2025.
Saleh and Bradley worked together at multiple stops throughout their careers. They first intersected in Seattle in 2011-12 when Bradley was defensive coordinator. Bradley brought Saleh to Jacksonville as linebackers coach from 2014-16. Then in 2025, Saleh and Bradley reunited in San Francisco with Saleh as defensive coordinator and Bradley as assistant head coach.
Bradley was head coach of the Jaguars from 2013-16, posting a 14-48 record. Saleh, Bradley and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll are all former head coaches.
Saleh told reporters he will retain play-calling responsibilities for the defense as a head coach, a responsibility he deferred away in his first head coaching stint.
Saleh and Bradley inherit a Titans defense built around star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, a first-team All-Pro honoree in 2025. The unit also returns contributors like linebackers Cody Barton and Cedric Gray, safeties Amani Hooker, Xavier Woods and Kevin Winston Jr., and defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat. The Titans have significant depth issues they need to address at cornerback and edge defender.
Under the watch of former defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, the Titans owned the NFL's No. 2 total defense in 2024, and a top-10 unit by yards allowed per play. The unit regressed in 2025 as injuries and trades left the secondary depleted. That said, the 2025 Titans owned one of the NFL's more productive pass rushes despite a lack of top-end talent off the edge.
