The summer couldn't be going much better for the Oregon Ducks on the recruiting trail. Multiple commitments have followed the end of the official visit season and boosted Oregon's class among the best in the nation.
Oregon has added six commitments since wrapping up official visits, including wideout Xavier Sabb, corner Hayden Stepp, and two-way star Tae Walden Jr.
Dan Lanning and the Ducks are on pace for a top-five recruiting class finish for the fifth straight year, with a couple of other commitments still on the way. Stars don't mean a ton once players hit the field, but the ratings of Oregon's 24 commits could allow the Ducks to push for the best class in the country once signing day rolls around this winter.
Rivals revealed its updated Rivals300 rankings on Monday, and several Oregon commits improved their placement, including one commit earning a fifth star. Here's a look at which players moved up and down in the new rankings.
Among the notable movements, Dakota Guerrant was one of the biggest risers, jumping up 24 spots and earning his fifth star from Rivals. The 6-foot-2 receiver has incredible ball skills and impressed evaluators this spring and summer to warrant a big improvement in the rankings, establishing himself as one of the best wideouts in the class.
Fellow wide receiver commit Xavier Sabb took a smaller jump forward as well. If the Ducks can hold on to both Guerrant and Sabb until signing day, the Ducks could have the best freshman duo at receiver in the country. So far, both commitments appear to be strong.
The catalyst for those commitments might be five-star quarterback Will Mencl, who publicly recruited both Guerrant and Sabb to join the Ducks this offseason. Mencl slipped one spot, but still remains the top quarterback on the Rivals300, despite Nebraska commit Trae Taylor quickly rising and earning a fifth star.
Elsewhere, Semaj Stanford has impressed in different camps this summer, leading to a big jump in the rankings. The Oklahoma star impressed at the Overtime OT7 Finals last month in Los Angeles and could quickly rise as one of the better safeties in the class. Currently, Stanford is the No. 5 safety in the Rivals300.
Although he didn't crack the top 300, in-state wideout Malachi Garlington also made a big move, rising to an 89 rating and is now listed as the No. 2 recruit in Oregon, behind fellow Oregon commit Josiah Molden. The product of Happy Valley drew the attention of wide receivers coach Ross Douglas at a camp in June and quickly drew an offer, took a visit, and committed to his dream school.
Oregon has a chance to add to the class later this month. Four-star linebacker Brayton Feister is still considered a heavy lean toward the Ducks, but he did postpone his commitment and has not set a new date. Four-star defensive lineman Brayden Parks is also looming. He has not set a commitment date yet, but it appears to be a battle between the Ducks and Notre Dame.
