Tommy Teers says he will look to go professional after his Commonwealth Games loss [BBC]
Guernsey boxer Tommy Teers saw his Commonwealth Games debut end in defeat.
The 28-year-old bantamweight - who juggles his boxing training with working as a carpenter - lost on a split decision to Eriu Temakau of Kiribati.
Teers had a point deducted for a low blow in the opening round before improving in the second.
But Temakau won the third round and took the decision 3-1.
"Surprisingly, I feel good - a split decision loss, I think the point deducted away from me in the first round kind of edged it his way, which is boxing, these things happen," Teers told BBC Guernsey.
"I'm just so happy to be here in these facilities and around all these athletes, it shows me what I've done to get here and I'm just happy, I couldn't really say any more to be fair."
Teers has twice reached the English Elite National semi-finals, but says this bout was likely to be his only fight at a Commonwealth Games for Guernsey.
"I think realistically this is it for me for amateur boxing," he added. "I think I'm more suited to the pros so I think I'm going to try to go pro and see what's out there for me.
"I've been doing a lot of sparring with the pros now anyway, so I think that's the next route for me."

Jason Greenslade cruised to his first win in the men's singles while Alison Merrien and Rose Ogier beat Australia on Friday.
Merrien and Ogier made it two wins from two as they overcame Dawn Hayman and Kelsey Cottrell in their pool game.
The islanders crushed their opponents 10-1 in the opening set before a 5-2 win in the second.
Meanwhile Greenslade - who narrowly lost to Australia's Aaron Wilson on Thursday - dropped just four shots in his 2-0 win over Botswana's Diza Mphotho.
He came back from 3-0 down to win the first set 10-3 before winning the second set 16-1.
Greenslade will face Namibia's Waylon Wentzel later on Friday.

In the pool Orla Rabey broke the Guernsey 50m butterfly record and helped the island's women set a new mark for the 4x100m relay as they reached the final.
Individually Rabey clocked a time of 28.39 to finish second in her heat.
The time was 0.06 seconds ahead of the mark she set four years ago at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
She beat compatriot Tatiana Tostevin, who was fourth in the heat in a time of 28.92 while Molly Staples finished third in her heat in 29.10.
In the relay Rabey, Tostevin, Emma Bourgaize and Tallulah-Mae Rautenbach swam a time of 3:55.88.
It took more than three seconds off the previous best set at the Commonwealth Games four years ago.
Elsewhere Delphine Riley beat her sister Elodie by five seconds in their 400m freestyle heat in a time of 4:36.16 while Zachary Maiden was 33rd and Henry Bolton 34th overall in the 50m backstroke.
Charlie-Joe Hallett finished sixth in his heat in the 100m breaststroke in 1:03.87 while the men's 4x100m relay team finished last in their heat in 3:39.34.
