Small sample size alert.

But yeah, Cleveland Guardians rookie Chase DeLauter is tied for the best OPS in MLB history.

DeLauter put up a 2.400 on-base-plus-slugging in his MLB regular season debut on Thursday night in Seattle.

He went 3-for-5 with two home runs and a single in Cleveland's 6-4 win. That gives him a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.800 slugging average.

Clearly, he won't keep those numbers up, but for now, with a minimum of five plate appearances, DeLauter is tied atop the list.

The only other player in major league history to have a 2.400 OPS did it with the same on-base and slugging combination, and did it in just a five plate appearance career.

Multiple crazy parts there -- it was a man named Garey who played for the Cuban Stars West in the Negro National League, and historians don't even know his full name.

That chart has a lot more cool stuff in it -- namely, Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle and Mets rookie Carson Benge appear, as well.

Obviously, a strong MLB debut gives you the chance to make this chart before a career that usually gets longer normalizes the statistics a bit.

And hey, a cameo from long-time Orioles reliever Zack Britton at No. 11 -- apparently he should've hit more.

The Guardians have long been believers in DeLauter, who just has to stay healthy. This is cool, albeit potentially fleeting, evidence of just how good he can be.
