PHILADELPHIA -- The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten really familiar with Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe. The No. 3 overall pick has made a big impact in the two games between the teams in his maiden NBA season and has left the Grizzlies befuddled.

Edgecombe scored 25 points and drilled the game-winning 3 in a Dec. 30 overtime win at FedEx Forum before then scoring 21 points in his return from a 3-game absence in Tuesday's 139-129 win at home. The Grizzlies had a tough time keeping him out of the paint and he was able to have some high-scoring games in both matchups with Memphis.

Before the contest, Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo gave his thoughts on the play of Edgecombe.

"I mean, very impressive," Iisalo said. "Was already going into the draft and early in the season, he had some scoring explosions and he’s kept that up. I think it’s a very good complement together with (Tyrese) Maxey. Therefore, a very interesting backcourt. Very explosive. He was able to get to the rim against us. Able to get those very tough shots, but he’s a very interesting prospect."

Edgecombe and the Sixers won't see the Grizzlies again until the 2026-27 season, but the rookie guard clearly left an imprint on Iisalo and the team. As for the current Sixers, they will look to keep building with Edgecombe taking on more responsibility with the injuries up and down the roster.
