The Memphis Grizzlies are still alive in their push for an NBA Summer League championship in Las Vegas.
Memphis finished No. 2 in the standings after every team played four games, meaning the Grizzlies advanced to the semifinals. They'll face the No. 3 Houston Rockets on July 18 (5:30 p.m. CT, Prime Video). The winner of that game will face either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Golden State Warriors in the title game on July 19 (8 p.m. CT, ESPN).
The Grizzlies got off to a good start in Las Vegas by beating the Chicago Bulls on July 10, but they lost their next game on July 13 against the Dallas Mavericks. That meant Memphis needed to win its next two games and run up its margin of victory.
Mission accomplished. The Grizzlies beat the Warriors by 21 on July 14, then annihilated the Atlanta Hawks by 32 thanks to a 32-2 first quarter to jump ahead of the other 3-1 teams by the point differential tiebreaker.
The Grizzlies have talked throughout the week about their goal to reach the summer league final. That's been made apparent by the fact that they've continued to play their top players instead of shutting them down as many teams choose to do. Cam Boozer and Cedric Coward — both projected starters for the Grizzlies' actual team this season — played well in the win over the Hawks.
Memphis is trying to win a summer league title for the second time. The Grizzlies won in 2019 (when the late Brandon Clarke was named MVP) and then made it to the final in 2024 but lost in overtime to the Heat.
