Greensboro Swarm
Jaylen Sims hit two clutch free throws with six seconds left Wednesday to seal the Greensboro Swarm's 111-107 victory over the Stockton Kings in Game 1 of the NBA G League Finals.
The Swarm led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter before the Kings stormed back to take a 105-100 lead midway through the fourth. Greensboro answered with an 11-2 run down the stretch to retake control and never looked back.
Marcus Garrett led the Swarm with 21 points on 9-of-23 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Tosan Evbuomwan added 15 points, Jaylen Sims scored 15 off the bench — including the game-sealing free throws — and Liam McNeeley contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds. Terrell Brown Jr. chipped in 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 23 minutes off the bench.
Dexter Dennis paced Stockton with 24 points on 10-of-21 shooting, while DaQuan Jeffries added 25 points. Patrick Baldwin Jr. scored 17.
Tidjane Salaun opened the game with a 3-pointer on the Swarm's first possession and Greensboro never trailed in the opening quarter, building a 38-32 lead after one. The Swarm pushed that advantage to 63-47 by halftime and stretched it to 90-71 early in the third before Stockton began chipping away.
Dennis sparked a 19-2 Kings run to open the fourth quarter, capping it with back-to-back 3-pointers to give Stockton its first lead since early in the first quarter at 92-90. The Kings pushed the margin to 105-100 before Greensboro rallied.
Garrett's go-ahead basket with 2:24 remaining put the Swarm in front 106-105. Sims' 3-pointer with one minute left extended the lead to four, and his two free throws with six seconds on the clock finished off the Kings' last comeback bid.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday in Stockton, Calif.
