Green Says Offense Should Be in Top 5
The Arizona Cardinals continued their team organized workout with Monday’s mid-morning practice and the offense, according to Head Coach Dennis Green, has a new goal in mind.
Green told media that he expects his offense to be in the top five in the NFL this season and that after studying stats on his team over the past four years, clearly there is a long way to go.
“They haven’t been a good scoring offense, a good rushing offense, nor first downs, those are all the things I’ve looked at for four years, so when I say we are going to be top five in offense, I clearly understand how far we’ve got to go,” pointed out a candid Green.
The Cardinals offense ranked 27th in the NFL last season in total offense, but Green argues that the Cardinals have enough talent to make that leap from the bottom to the top.
“I want the players to understand how far we have to achieve and I think we have the players that can do that,” stated Green. “I don’t think anybody would disagree we’ve got the receivers to do it. I think most people would feel we’ve got the backs to do it. I think the guys who have to prove themselves are the quarterback, who I’m convinced of, and the offensive line. We’ve got to get all five of those groups, the backs, receivers, quarterback, line and tight ends all working together. I think we have the ability, but the performance over the last four years just has not been good at all and that is something we don’t want to happen to us.”
Backup quarterback Shaun King says the offense is up for the challenge set by Green.
“If you look at all the teams around the NFL who are successful, they are successful because that is what they strive to be,” he explained. “They set their goals high and they put in the work to get there. We play in a league where you get what you deserve and if Coach sets those high and lofty goals for us, then it is up to us to get to that level. Having goals like that doesn’t allow you to become complacent. It is tough to be a top five offense but I think having that goal is good for the guys, keeps everyone focused and prevents anyone from slacking off.”

I don't know what that means.
