EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Grass Lake falls short of its second state title after losing to Ravenna 4-2.
Last season it was Grass Lake who earned its first state title in program history and this season it was Ravenna who earned their first state title in program history.
Morgan Conrad sent a line drive back to the left center wall, allowing Mackenzie Hilberer to score from first, as the Warriors hit the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs strong fourth inning was enough to stop the Warriors in their tracks.
Ravenna responds in the third inning off the bat of Reese Herremans who drove in two runs to give the bulldogs the 2-1 lead. A few batters later, Sydney Morrissey would send a grounder to left that would make it just past the shortstop. Two runners would come across the plate as Ravenna would go up 4-1.
In the bottom of the 7th, Morgan Conrad sent to a grounder to right and Kennedy Collins was walked to put two runners on for the Warriors. Chloe Hollifield would hit an RBI single that would allow Ava Hamp to score from second to cut the deficit to two but that was as close as the Warriors would get as the game ends on a Grass Lake strikeout.
While Grass Lake felt short of its goal repeat champions, they left the field boasted by applause and cheers from their fans.
